This October at St John’s Co-Cathedral
October brings a new programme of events to St John’s Co-Cathedral, with a series of special evenings taking place throughout the month.
From Notte Bianca and special concerts to performances celebrating Malta’s musical and cultural heritage, there are several opportunities to experience St John’s after hours this October.
Here’s what’s coming up this month:
Notte Bianca
Saturday 3 October | From 19:30
Experience St John’s Co-Cathedral after dark as part of this year’s Notte Bianca celebrations in Valletta.
Throughout the evening, visitors will be welcomed into the Co-Cathedral through guided tours, offering an opportunity to discover more about its history, art and heritage.
Guided tours will run from 19:30 onwards, with the last tour at 23:30. Entrance is free of charge.
Casal Nuovo: Echoes of Four Centuries
Friday 9 October | 19:30
Marking 400 years since the foundation of Paola, Casal Nuovo: Echoes of Four Centuries celebrates the town’s history and its connection with its founder, Grand Master Antoine de Paule.
The setting has particular significance: Grand Master de Paule’s final resting place is here at St John’s Co-Cathedral.
Through music, the evening will bring together four centuries of history in a concert commemorating this important anniversary.
St Paul Choral Society – Magnificat
Friday 23 October | 19:30
The St Paul Choral Society presents Magnificat, bringing Maltese sacred music back to life with works by Benigno Zerafa and Francesco Azopardi.
The programme includes Zerafa’s Posui Adiutorium, originally composed for the grand entry of Grand Master Emmanuel de Rohan into Mdina Cathedral and performed on this occasion exactly 250 years to the day after its completion.
The concert also supports an important cause, with all ticket revenue going directly to Hospice Malta.

The Three Palaces

St John’s Co-Cathedral will once again form part of The Three Palaces, bringing music into one of Malta’s most historic settings.
The festival celebrates the meeting of music and architectural heritage, with performances taking place across some of the islands’ most distinctive historic spaces.
Valletta Resounds: The Caravaggio Experience
The programme continues beyond individual October events with Valletta Resounds: The Caravaggio Experience, held in the Oratory of St John’s Co-Cathedral.
The experience brings together live classical music and theatrical storytelling alongside Caravaggio’s The Beheading of St John the Baptist, exploring the story of the artist, the Knights of St John and their legacy in Valletta.
Visitors can also choose an experience which includes an after-hours guided tour of the Co-Cathedral before the performance.
